Encountering the flaws of others can be a wonderful opportunity to find and change the flaws in yourself.
Kenny S. R. Costa
Background
I often find myself irritated in the flaws of others. I believe (or at least hope) that this is typical human nature, and I remember once being told that the attributes of a person you find most irritating are the flaws you yourself have. While that is not always the case, it has been on a number of occasions.
For example, I am known as the guy who is always late, and have found myself very irritated when people are late for events that I plan myself. It is moments like those that I try to say the quote I made above, that I should use that anger or irritation to try to change myself. So in the example above, when someone is late for something I plan, I try to say to myself…
“See how irritating that is Kenny? Now try not to be late for things yourself.”
